We nurture new, diverse talent to create inspirational events and innovative content.
Welcome to a brand new approach to media production - dedicated to creating authentic storytelling and championing diverse talent.
We take a 360 view - media exists everywhere and the best creative talent can be found in all kinds of places.
So we don’t just produce great content. We actively seek out and and champion hidden voices and stories to share across all media platforms. We discover raw potential and help it shine.
No grit, no pearl.
What we do
Storytelling is our passion and we choose to tell the stories that you won’t find in the mainstream. From short digital film to podcasts or blogs, we work with our grass-roots networks to uncover lesser heard voices and share their stories with the world.
From launching Bristol’s inaugural Podcast festival to producing world class TEDx events, our live events team specialise in live content that inspires, educates and delights.
We connect diverse emerging talent with the decision makers in film, TV and the wider media industry.
We don’t just represent people with huge raw potential, we nurture them via workshops, mentoring and networking opportunities so that they are ready for the bright future that lies ahead.
Gritty Pearl Productions draws on the experience of two dynamic ex-BBC production gurus who know how to make excellent content, but do it with social values and integrity at their core.
Founder And Creative Director
Mel is passionate about seeking out and championing new creative talent. As curator and creative director of the hugely successful not-for-profit event TEDxBristol for the last five years, she’s experienced the power of storytelling on a global scale and its potential to change lives.
She founded Gritty Pearl Productions on the mission to grow and champion many of the diverse people and stories she engaged with while running the TEDx event, as well as expanding the type of content that can be created in this multi-platform world.
Mel’s background is in TV and digital media. A former senior BBC Producer and Project Manager, for the last two years she led the BBC’s ‘Digital Cities’ initiative in Bristol, Cardiff and the North East of England, bringing creative industry partners together to boost their region’s digital media skills. Before that she worked across factual production at the BBC, producing a host of well-known programmes including Crimewatch, The One Show and Horizon.
